Big Sur essentially is the 90-mile section of California coastline south to Monterrey Bay. Each time if we drive down to southern California, we always drive up through Hwy 1. Each time we would discover something unique.
If there is one single image of California coastline that would make your jaw dropping, it has to be the Pfeiffer Falls in Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, not the 17-Mile Drive you are probably thinking. We have been to both, and our favorite is always Big Sur, which stands in its grandest and wildest nature.

Beautiful shots… ;-)
I have always loved the california coast. Carmel and Monterey are wonderful any time of the year!
Looks heavenly – I want to visit here immediately!
Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos. I am going Big Sur on 7/30. Really looking forward to it!
Beautiful – the coast is calling – Happy Thursday:)
Wow. Pfeiffer Falls are amazing.
I think you’d like our Great Ocean Road along the southern coast of Australia just west of Melbourne. Your photos of Big Sur make me think of the GOR. Though the GOR doesn’t have a cool waterfall like that :)
Terrifying to drive around, but mind blowingly beautiful. Can’t believe I lived in California for 20 years and only did this drive once. Great photos!
